God's plan to save you from the beginning. |
Most people can tell you that the gospel can be found in the New Testament, particularly in the first four books: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. What is not as well known is that the Gospel can be found all throughout the Old Testament albeit hidden in prophecy, history, poetry, and even in the details of the law of Moses. Without the New Testament it remains obscured and cloaked in mystery, but in the light of the New Testament, the Gospel is revealed in the Old Testament as God's perfect plan of redemption conceived before creation.
Week 1: How God Grows Your Faith
|
Throughout Abraham's life, God worked to build and strengthen his faith and spiritual strength. Genesis provides a clear testimony demonstrating that while imperfect, Abraham was a man of faith, learning to trust in God as God demonstrated His faithfulness toward Abraham again and again. Finally, God put Abraham's faith to the test and in doing so provided not only a pattern of faith development for us, but also a prophetic template of the atonement 2000 years before it happened.

Week 2: How God Grows Your Character
|
One of the greatest stories ever told, the Story of Joseph in the book of Genesis may be one of the most profound typological examples of Jesus in the Old Testament. Joseph's story is a true saga of suffering, growth, faith, and divine providence that is unrivaled even in the rest of the scriptures. Furthermore, this story contains numerous prophetic "types" of Christ that reflect beforehand his ministry, suffering, and triumph.

Week 3: How God Heals Your Deepens Wound
|
Numbers 21 contains a story of the Israelites in the desert as they rebel against God and Moses and consequently suffer the judgement of God's wrath and the simultaneous provision for their salvation and healing that can only come by faith put into action. There are numerous references to this event written in the New Testament that clearly identify this historical moment as a prophetic event - creating a pattern that the Jesus the Messiah would fulfill flawlessly.

Week 4: The Forbidden Chapter
|
Isaiah 53 is considered the most overtly Jesus focused passage of all messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. Though historically considered a messianic prophecy by a host of venerated Rabbis, today the passage is not considered messianic by modern Rabbis because it is so easily “misinterpreted as referring to Jesus.” Rabbi’s chose to remove the reading of Isaiah 53 from Jewish readings in order to avoid listeners making this “unfortunate connection” to Jesus. To this very day, scholars that do not believe in Jesus as the Messiah will object to and suppress the reading of certain biblical texts because a simple reading of the text by any reasonable person will result in that person perceiving that Jesus is the subject matter. The messianic texts in the Old Testament were not only fulfilled by Jesus, they could not ever be fulfilled by someone else because many other requirements of the prophets were to be fulfilled in a certain time frame. In other words, “If Jesus isn’t the messiah, then there will never be a messiah." (Lee Strobel)
