Jonah is a radically unique prophet and the Book of Jonah is just as unique among the books of prophecy in the Old Testament. God calls Jonah to go and prophecy to an enemy nation and Jonah’s response is far from heroic - he attempts to run to the other side of the world. The entire book of Jonah showcases Jonah’s utter rebellion against God’s call upon him to Nineveh from beginning to end, but also God’s redemptive purpose for all mankind and His mission to turn every heart toward Himself.
