Kingdom building is what Jesus is doing. It ought to be what we are doing.

There are many activities that we take part in that may be necessities for our day to day living, helpful for providing for ourselves and our loved ones, enjoyable and fun providing a needed diversion…but there are only a few things that we engage in that truly leave a lasting and meaningful impression on the world and the people around us. It may be that we spend very much time thinking and planning for all that will make, in the end, very little difference in the lives of the people our lives will touch, and very little time thinking and preparing for what could make the biggest difference - that which will be our legacy.

The scriptures beckon us to see our lives framed not so much by the number of our days on earth, the possessions that we will amass, our net worth, the recognition we may receive, or even the people we surround ourselves with. None of these things really define the true value or worth of anyone - and all by themselves really make for a shallow, empty analog. In Christ, our perspective, our vision, our purview ought to be eternity, and though not everything we do may have an eternal impact, the main focus and contribution of our lives can - and ought to. It does require us to purposefully and tenaciously maintain an eternal focus, embrace an eternal mission, and invest in eternal treasure.
